Proverbs 26
1 Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, honor is not fitting for a fool.
2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the backs of fools!
미련한 자에 대한 내용입니다. 이 책은 유대왕 13대 히스기야왕의 신하들이 편집했습니다. 북이스라엘이 BC722년에 앗수르에 멸망한 시기입니다. 히스기야는 북이스라엘의 멸망을 보면서 남유대에 종교개혁을 일으켰습니다. 왕이 자기의 영광을 위하다가 우상을 숭배하여 결국 멸망하였던 북이스라엘을 보면서, 자기의 영예가 아니라 하나님의 영광을 추구하는 왕이 되었습니다.
This is about a foolish person. This book was compiled by the servants of King Hezekiah, the 13th king of Judah. The timeframe is around the year 722 BC when the northern kingdom of Israel fell to Assyria. Hezekiah initiated religious reforms in southern Judah upon witnessing the destruction of northern Israel by Assyria. Reflecting on the downfall of the northern kingdom, which had perished by worshiping idols in pursuit of its own glory, Hezekiah transformed into a king who sought not his own honor but the glory of God.
4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes.
미련한 자를 만나면 어떻게 대처를 해야 하는 지 알려주고 있습니다. 미련한 자와 말을 하다보면 그의 말투, 생각, 태도를 닮게 되고, 결국 그 미련한 자의 행동을 하게 되기 때문에 아예 상대하지 말아야 합니다. 미련한 자에게 대답을 할 때에는 ‘그의 어리석음’을 따라 해야 합니다. 그래야 어리석은 말을 들은 미련한 자가 이와같은 대답에 대하여 반응하지 않고 우리를 더이상 상대하지 않게 되기 때문입니다.
When encountering a foolish person, it is important to know how to respond. When conversing with such a person, one may unconsciously adopt their tone, thoughts, and attitude. Consequently, it is essential to avoid engaging with them altogether, as this could lead to adopting their foolish behavior. When responding to a foolish person, one should mirror their foolishness. This way, the foolish individual, upon hearing such a response, is less likely to react and will cease to engage with us further.
6 Sending a message by the hands of a fool is like cutting off one’s feet or drinking poison.
7 Like the useless legs of one who is lame is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.
8 Like tying a stone in a sling is the giving of honor to a fool.
9 Like a thornbush in a drunkard’s hand is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.
10 Like an archer who wounds at random is one who hires a fool or any passer-by.
11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.
다시 미련한 자에 대한 내용입니다. 왜 많은 사람들이 미련한 자가 되었습니까? 잠언 1:7에서 알려주듯, 미련한 자는 지혜와 훈계를 멸시하는 사람입니다. 여호와를 경외하지 않았기에 지혜와 훈계를 멸시하게 되었습니다. 예수그리스도를 나의 구주로 고백하지 않는 자는 여호와를 경외할 수 없습니다.
(잠 1:7) 여호와를 경외하는 것이 지식의 근본이거늘 미련한 자는 지혜와 훈계를 멸시하느니라
This is about foolishness once again. Why have so many people become foolish? As Proverbs 1:7 tells us, a foolish person is someone who despises wisdom and discipline. They have disregarded wisdom and discipline because they did not fear the Lord. Those who do not confess Jesus Christ as their Savior cannot fear the Lord.
(Proverbs 1:7) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
12 Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them.
미련한 자보다 스스로 자기를 지혜롭게 여기는 자가 절망적입니다. 미련한 자에게 오히려 희망이 있다고 말합니다. 성경에는 우리가 행동해서는 안되는 두 가지 죄가 있습니다. 첫째는 이방사람들과 섞이는 것이고, 둘째는 내가 하나님 대신에 왕이 되고자 하는 것입니다. 북이스라엘은 우상과 섞이고, 또 하나님 대신에 이방신을 왕처럼 섬겼기에 결국 멸망하게 되었습니다. 히스기야왕은 미련한 사람도 위험하지만, 이렇게 자기를 스스로 지혜롭다 여기는 것, 곧 교만이야말로 큰 죄인 것을 경고하고 있습니다.
Someone who considers themselves wise instead of admitting they might be foolish is in a worse situation. Surprisingly, there's hope for someone who acts foolish. The Bible talks about two things we shouldn't do: firstly, mixing with people who don't follow God, and secondly, the desire to become king in place of God. Northern Israel got in trouble because they mixed with idols and served foreign gods instead of God, which led to their destruction. King Hezekiah warns not only about the danger of foolishness but also about the serious sin of thinking you're wise on your own, which is basically pride.
