‘성경에는 한없이 무식하고, 탐욕에는 한없이 지혜로운 목사가 되지 않게 하소서!’
(열왕기하 5:15-27)
1.갈등찾기/ 성경은 ( 위인전 )이 아닙니다.
A.오늘 성경본문은 너무나 잘 알려진 나아만 장군의 나병이 고침을 받은 이야기입니다.
그런데 이 이야기가 성경에 기록된 목적이 무엇일까요?
엘리사의 위대함일까요? 나아만 장군의 순종일까요? 아니면 종으로 팔려간 어린 소녀의 이야기일까요?
아닙니다. 성경은 위인전이 아닙니다. 나아만도 엘리샤도 어린 소녀도 주인공이 아닙니다. 온전히 하나님이십니다. 하나님의 이야기를 놓친다면 우리의 설교는 낭패입니다.
B.저는 굉장히 행복한 한 주간을 보냈는데, 특별히 말씀 때문에 너무 행복했습니다.
성경강독반 1기 시험을 마치면서 우리의 시선이 나에게서 하나님으로 바뀌어져 가는 성도님들을 볼 때 너무 행복했습니다.
뿐만아니라 어제 중고등부 학생들이 각자 주제를 가지고 성경포럼을 하는데, 발제하는 그들의 내용에서 큰 감동을 받았습니다.
삼손의 이야기, 에스더의 이야기, 모세의 이야기, 노아의 이야기, 요나의 이야기를 발제 하는데, 정말 놀라웠습니다. 특별히 사람의 이야기가 아니라, 삼손을 붙잡고 계신 하나님의 이야기를 발제하는데 크 도전을 받았습니다.
(질문) 열왕기하 5:1-27의 이야기는 누구의 이야기입니까?
1)나아만의 이야기는 ( 하나님 )의 이야기입니다.
성경은 흥미롭게도, 나아만이 하나님을 알기 전에, 하나님께서 나아만이 큰 전쟁에서 승리하도록 ‘역사하셨다’고 기록되어 있습니다.
(왕하 5:1) 아람 왕의 군대 장관 나아만은 그의 주인 앞에서 크고 존귀한 자니 이는 여호와께서 전에 그에게 아람을 구원하게 하셨음이라 그는 큰 용사이나 나병환자더라
나아만이 나병을 고치기 전부터 하나님은 이야기를 쓰고 계신 것입니다.
그러다가 나병에 걸리고, 이스라엘출신 어린 소녀 종의 이야기를 듣고 북이스라엘의 엘리사를 만나 요단강에 7번에 들어갔다 나왔다를 반복한 후에 병고침을 받고 나서, 본격적으로 15절에 고백하였습니다.
“이스라엘의 하나님 외에는 다른 신이 없습니다!”
(왕하 5:15) 나아만이 모든 군대와 함께 하나님의 사람에게로 도로 와서 그의 앞에 서서 이르되 내가 이제 이스라엘 외에는 온 천하에 신이 없는 줄을 아나이다 청하건대 당신의 종에게서 예물을 받으소서 하니
뿐만아니라 승리한 후에 고국으로 돌아가면서 아람에 하나님을 예배하는 성전을 짓기 위해 아예 이스라엘의 흙을 가져가게 해 달라고 엘리샤에게 부탁을 합니다.
(왕하 5:17) 나아만이 이르되 그러면 청하건대 노새 두 마리에 실을 흙을 당신의 종에게 주소서 이제부터는 종이 번제물과 다른 희생제사를 여호와 외 다른 신에게는 드리지 아니하고 다만 여호와께 드리겠나이다
참 어려운 이야기지만, 하나님은 나아만을 통해 하나님의 이야기를 쓰기 위하여 나병을 허락하셨고, 나병을 통해 하나님께 나오고, 만나주시고, 병고쳐주셔서, 아람 땅에 하나님을 예배하도록 하셨습니다.
2)엘리샤의 이야기는 ( 하나님 )의 이야기입니다.
엘리샤는 나아만의 나병을 고치는데 혁혁한 공을 세웠습니다. 그래서 나아만이 예물을 엘리샤에게 주고자 했습니다. 그러나 엘리샤가 거절합니다.
그 이유가 너무 명확합니다. 이 기적은 자신이 한 것이 아니라, 하나님이 하신 것을 알았기 때문입니다.
엘리샤의 이야기는 모두 하나님의 이야기입니다.
(왕하 5:16) 이르되 내가 섬기는 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 그 앞에서 받지 아니하리라 하였더라 나아만이 받으라고 강권하되 그가 거절하니라
3)게하시의 이야기는 ( 사람 )의 이야기입니다.
그런데 성경을 읽고 묵상하다보면 반전이 일어납니다. 갑자기 엘리샤의 하인 게하시가 나타나서 사람의 이야기를 써 내려갑니다.하나님의 이야기가 아니라 사람의 이야기가 주인공이 되고자 합니다.
게하시는 나아만 장군의 나병을 고쳐준 것이 엘리샤의 덕이라고 생각했습니다. 자신의 주인이 한 일이 하나님의 일이 된 것에 대하여 분하였습니다.
더나아가 나아만의 예물을 거절하는 엘리샤에게 서운한 감정이 들었습니다. 그래서 스스로에게 이런 다짐을 합니다.
“내가 그를 쫓아가서 무엇이든지 받으리라!”
(왕하 5:20) 하나님의 사람 엘리사의 사환 게하시가 스스로 이르되 내 주인이 이 아람 사람 나아만에게 면하여 주고 그가 가지고 온 것을 그의 손에서 받지 아니하였도다 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 그를 쫓아가서 무엇이든지 그에게서 받으리라 하고
2.갈등분석/ 사람의 탐욕은 어떤 결과를 낳습니까?
탐욕이 가득해진 게하시가 자기의 욕망을 이루기 위해 첫번째 했던 행동은 ‘거짓말’을 하는 것이었습니다.
탐욕은 거짓말을 출산합니다.
1)게하시의 탐욕은 ( 거짓말 )을 낳았습니다.
게하시는 나아만을 쫓아온 일이 자신의 주인 엘리사의 명령 때문이라고 거짓말합니다. 거기다가 두 청년의 이야기를 하면서 은 한 달라트와 옷 두 벌을 요구합니다. 정말 어처구니가 없습니다.
(왕하 5:22) 그가 이르되 평안하나이다 우리 주인께서 나를 보내시며 말씀하시기를 지금 선지자의 제자 중에 두 청년이 에브라임 산지에서부터 내게로 왔으니 청하건대 당신은 그들에게 은 한 달란트와 옷 두 벌을 주라 하시더이다
게하시의 말은 온통 거짓말이었습니다.
그런데 더 비극적인 것은 그 거짓말이 다시 거짓말을 낳는다는 것입니다.
2)게하시의 탐욕은 또 ( 거짓말 )을 낳습니다.
게하시는 받은 은과 옷을 집에 감추어 두고 엘리샤 앞에 돌아왔습니다. 그런데 엘리샤가 게하시의 거짓을 알고 있었습니다.
엘리샤가 다시 질문합니다.
“게하시야 네가 어디서 오느냐”
게하시는 다시 거짓말을 합니다.
“종이 아무데도 가지 않았습니다.”
(왕하 5:25) 들어가 그의 주인 앞에 서니 엘리사가 이르되 게하시야 네가 어디서 오느냐 하니 대답하되 당신의 종이 아무데도 가지 아니하였나이다 하니라
3)탐욕과 거짓말은 ( 저주 )를 낳습니다.
게하시는 결국 엘리샤로부터 저주를 받습니다.
“나아만의 나병이 네게 들어 네 자손에게 미쳐 영원토록 이르리라!”
(왕하 5:27) 그러므로 나아만의 나병이 네게 들어 네 자손에게 미쳐 영원토록 이르리라 하니 게하시가 그 앞에서 물러나오매 나병이 발하여 눈같이 되었더라
사랑하는 열바가족 여러분, 야고보서 1장을 보면 무시무시한 말씀이 있습니다.
(약 1:14-16) 오직 각 사람이 시험을 받는 것은 자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹됨이니 욕심이 잉태한즉 죄를 낳고 죄가 장성한즉 사망을 낳느니라 내 사랑하는 형제들아 속지 말라
우리가 왜 시험을 받습니까?
자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹되기 때문입니다.
그리고 그 욕심은 잉태하여 죄를 낳고, 그 죄가 장성하여 사망을 낳습니다.
곧 탐심이 사망을 낳습니다!
3.실마리/ 어떻게 해야 우리를 사망케 하는 탐심에서 자유로울 수 있습니까?
제가 매일 동네세메줄성경으로 말씀묵상을 하는데, 그 이유가 여기 있습니다.
말씀묵상의 순서에 따라 문재 해결점을 찾아가 봅시다.
1)비움/ 어떠한 형편에서든지 ( 자족 ) 해야 합니다.
우리가 빌립보서로 말씀묵상을 했던 지난주에 주일설교로 전했던 말씀입니다.
‘자족한다’는 의미는 더이상 나를 위한 욕심을 자제하고, 도리어 내게 지나치게 소유하고 있는 것을 단순화 시켜서 간편하게 인생을 살아간다는 것입니다.
어떻게 자족할 힘을 얻습니까?
배워야 합니다. 머리로, 몸으로 배워가면서, 어떠한 형편에서든지 자족하는 법을 습득해 나가야 합니다.
(빌 4:11) 내가 궁핍하므로 말하는 것이 아니니라 어떠한 형편에든지 나는 자족하기를 배웠노니
(빌 4:12) 나는 비천에 처할 줄도 알고 풍부에 처할 줄도 알아 모든 일 곧 배부름과 배고픔과 풍부와 궁핍에도 처할 줄 아는 일체의 비결을 배웠노라
세례요한은 광야로 나가 매뚜기와 석청으로 살아가면서 예수와 자신과의 관계를 ‘자족의 모습’으로 고백했습니다.
“나는 쇠하여지고, 예수는 흥해져야 한다!”
(요 3:30) 그는 흥하여야 하겠고 나는 쇠하여야 하리라 하니라
자신의 인생 이야기에서 자신이 주인공이 아니라 예수가 주인공임을 고백하며 살았기에, 세례요한은 온전하 하나님의 이야기를 써 내려갈 수 있었습니다.
(예) 전은주 사모에게 두 목사에게 하는 유언
-> 어떤 경우에도 목회하는 교회에서 받는 사례로 살아갑시다. 부흥회를 비롯하여 외부 교회에 가서 강사비를 받지 마세요!
(질문) 어제 목사는 자족하는 법을 배웁니까?
->외부 사례비를 받을 때마다 돌려줄 때 자족하는 힘이 생깁니다.
(예) 텍사스 칼린에서 받은 사례비는 선교헌금으로 모두 드렸습니다.
(예) SHAWN 목사가 준 천국환송예배 사례비를 모두 돌려 주었습니다.
SHAWN 목사가 마지막으로 했던 말이 귀에서 떠나지 않습니다.
“목사님, 이 사례비는 어떻게서든지 목사님에게 돌려드릴거예요!”
2)채움/ 마음에 ( 예수 )를 채워야 합니다.
내 안에 있는 탐욕을 비우기만 해서 탐심이 사라지는 것은 아닙니다.
비움이 있은 후에는 반드시 채움이 있어야 합니다. 바로 예수로 내 안을 채울 때 탐욕의 유혹에서 벗어날 수 있습니다.
물질뿐만아니라 ‘내적결핍’을 채워야 합니다. 내면이 허하면 ( 숫자 )에 예민해 집니다. 예수로 가득 채울 때, 탐욕을 이길 수 있습니다. 내 안을 채우는 원천은 예수입니다.
그래서 바울은 이렇게 고백합니다.
“내게 예수안에서 내가 모든 것을 자족할 수 있느니라!”
(빌 4:13) 내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라
엘리사는 두 번의 기적을 이렇게 소개합니다.
A, 가마에 독이 든 채소가 섞였습니다. 그때 가루를 가져다가 던졌을 때 독이 사라졌습니다.
(왕하 4:41) 엘리사가 이르되 그러면 가루를 가져오라 하여 솥에 던지고 이르되 퍼다가 무리에게 주어 먹게 하라 하매 이에 솥 가운데 독이 없어지니라
생명의 떡이신 예수가 던져지면 생명을 얻습니다.
B.물 근원이 문제가 생기자 소금을 던지니 다시 열매를 맺습니다.
(왕하 2:21) 엘리사가 물 근원으로 나아가서 소금을 그 가운데에 던지며 이르되 여호와의 말씀이 내가 이 물을 고쳤으니 이로부터 다시는 죽음이나 열매 맺지 못함이 없을지니라 하셨느니라 하니
소금같은 예수께서 던져지니 생명을 얻습니다.

->마태복음의 배경에 대해 배우고 읽으니 더 잘 이해할 수 있었고, 특히 천국에 대한 비유에 대해 깊이 묵상할 수 있어서 뜻깊었습니다.
3)나눔/ 가지고 있는 ( 은혜 )를 나누어야 합니다.
엘리사는 예수님의 모형입니다. 그림자입니다.
어느날 엘리사를 위해 떡 20개와 채소를 받았을 때 사람들에게 나누면서 기도했습니다. 그리고 그 20개의 떡과 채소로 100명의 제자들과 가족들이 배부르게 먹게 되었습니다.
(왕하 4:42) 한 사람이 바알 살리사에서부터 와서 처음 만든 떡 곧 보리떡 이십 개와 또 자루에 담은 채소를 하나님의 사람에게 드린지라 그가 이르되 무리에게 주어 먹게 하라
(왕하 4:43) 그 사환이 이르되 내가 어찌 이것을 백 명에게 주겠나이까 하나 엘리사는 또 이르되 무리에게 주어 먹게 하라 여호와의 말씀이 그들이 먹고 남으리라 하셨느니라
내 안의 욕망을 비우는 것도 좋고, 내 안에 예수를 채우는 것도 좋지만, 거기서 멈추지 말고, 그 다음단계는 흘려보내는 것입니다.
탐욕의 특징이 무엇입니까? 내 안의 배고픔도 있지만, 이웃에 ( 무관심 ) 입니다!!!
(예) 성경강독의 답안지 -> 성경강독후 받은 은혜는 무엇입니까? 공부 전에는 세상의 불공평, 불의를 하나님께서는 왜 보고만 계시는가에 대한 불만이 제 안에 가득했었습니다. 그런데 공부를 하고 나서 바뀐 부분은 그 부분은 하나님께 맡기고, 내가 불공평한 것을 바로 잡고, 불의한 일을 보면 공의를 이루고, 배고프고 억눌린 사람들을 보면 내가 사랑하고, 보호하고, 감싸주어야겠다는 결심을 하게 되었습니다.
성령의 열매 가운데 양선은 구제보다 더 ‘적극적인 선행’을 의미합니다.
(예) 켄싱톤거리에서 받은 은혜 -> 20불을 도네이션 하는 흑인
4.복음제시/ 예수님은 어떤 분이십니까?
1)하나님과 ( 동등죔 )을 취하지 아니하셨습니다.
2)자기를 비워 ( 종 )의 형체를 가지사 사람이 되셨습니다.
3)자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 ( 복종 ) 하셨습니다.
(빌 2:5-8) 너희 안에 이 마음을 품으라 곧 그리스도 예수의 마음이니 그는 근본 하나님의 본체시나 하나님과 동등됨을 취할 것으로 여기지 아니하시고 오히려 자기를 비워 종의 형체를 가지사 사람들과 같이 되셨고 사람의 모양으로 나타나사 자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨으니 곧 십자가에 죽으심이라
5.결론/ 우리는 하늘의 시민권자입니다. 이 땅의 것을 탐심하지 말고, 나누며 살아갑시다!
사랑하는 열방가족 여러분, 성경은 사람의 이야기가 아니라 하나님의 이야기입니다.
엘리샤가 나아만의 병을 고친 이야기를 가지고 집에 가면 안됩니다.
하나님의 이야기를 써 내려갑시다.
그러기 위해서는 게하시처럼 사람의 이야기를 써 내려가는 탐심으로부터 해방되어야 합니다.
그러기 위해 욕망을 비우고 자족합시다. 예수로 우리의 내면을 가득 채웁시다. 그리고 받은 은혜를 간직하지만 말고 흘러 내려 보냅시다.
우리는 이 땅의 시민이 아니라, 하늘의 시민권자입니다.
MADE IN HEAVEN입니다.
(빌 3:20) 그러나 우리의 시민권은 하늘에 있는지라 거기로부터 구원하는 자 곧 주 예수 그리스도를 기다리노라
다만 우리가 이 땅에 살고 있는 것은 우리의 이야기를 쓰기 위함이 아니라, 하나님의 이야기를 이 땅에서 쓰기 위함입니다.
우리가 왜 지음받았습니까?
MADE FOR PEOPLE! 입니다.
땅의 사람들을 위함입니다.
우리로 하여금, 탐심에 가득한 게하시같은 인간들을 예수께로 인도하여, 그들로 구원받고, 영생을 얻어, 그들도 하늘의 시민권자로 살아가게 하기 위함입니다.
오늘 예배를 드리고 세상에 나가서 두 가지 잊지 마십시오!
나는 하늘의 시민권자이다!

"May I not become a pastor who is endlessly ignorant in the Bible and endlessly wise in greed!"
(2 Kings 5:15-27)
1.Identifying Conflict: The Bible is not a (biography).
A. Today's scripture is the well-known story of Naaman the general being healed of his leprosy. But what is the purpose of this story being recorded in the Bible? Is it to show the greatness of Elisha? Is it about Naaman's obedience? Or is it the story of the young girl sold into slavery? No. The Bible is not a biography. Neither Naaman, Elisha, nor the young girl are the main characters. It is entirely about God. If we miss God's story, our sermon is in vain.
B. I had a very happy week, especially because of the Word. As I finished the exam for the first session of the Bible reading group, I was very happy to see the congregation's focus shifting from themselves to God. Additionally, yesterday, the middle and high school students had a Bible forum where they each presented on different topics, and I was deeply moved by their presentations. They discussed the stories of Samson, Esther, Moses, Noah, and Jonah. It was truly amazing. I was particularly challenged by their focus on God's story, not just the stories of these people.
(Question) Whose story is the one in 2 Kings 5:1-27?
Naaman's story is (God's) story.
Interestingly, before Naaman knew God, God had already worked through him, giving him victory in a great war.
(2 Kings 5:1) Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.
Before Naaman was healed of his leprosy, God was already writing His story. When Naaman contracted leprosy, heard the story from the young Israelite girl, met Elisha in Northern Israel, and dipped seven times in the Jordan River, he was healed. He then confessed in verse 15, “There is no God in all the world except in Israel!”
(2 Kings 5:15) Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
Moreover, after his victory, he asked Elisha for permission to take some soil from Israel to build an altar to God in Aram.
(2 Kings 5:17) “If you will not,” said Naaman, “please let me, your servant, be given as much earth as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the Lord.”
Though it is a difficult story, God allowed Naaman's leprosy to write His story through him, drawing him to God, meeting him, healing him, and enabling him to worship God in Aram.
Elisha's story is (God's) story.
Elisha played a crucial role in healing Naaman's leprosy. Naaman wanted to give him gifts, but Elisha refused. The reason is clear. He knew the miracle was God's doing, not his own. Elisha's story is entirely God's story.
(2 Kings 5:16) The prophet answered, “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.” And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.
Gehazi's story is (a human) story.
However, as we read and meditate on the scripture, there is a twist. Suddenly, Elisha’s servant Gehazi appears and begins to write a human story, not God's story. Gehazi thought that the healing of Naaman's leprosy was due to Elisha's merit. He was upset that what his master had done was credited to God. Moreover, he felt resentful towards Elisha for refusing Naaman's gifts. So, he decided to do this:
(2 Kings 5:20) Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, “My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
2. Conflict Analysis: What are the consequences of human greed?
Gehazi, filled with greed, took the first step to fulfill his desire by lying. Greed gives birth to lies.
Gehazi's greed gave birth to (lies).
Gehazi lied that he was acting under Elisha's orders and asked for a talent of silver and two sets of clothing for two young men from the hill country of Ephraim. It was an absurd request.
(2 Kings 5:22) “Everything is all right,” Gehazi answered. “My master sent me to say, ‘Two young men from the company of the prophets have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.’”
Gehazi's words were full of lies. The tragedy is that one lie leads to another lie.
Gehazi's greed gave birth to more (lies).
Gehazi hid the silver and clothes in his house and then went to stand before Elisha, who already knew the truth.
Elisha asked him,
(2 Kings 5:25) “Where have you been, Gehazi?”
“Your servant didn’t go anywhere,” Gehazi answered.
Greed and lies lead to (curses).
Eventually, Gehazi was cursed by Elisha.
(2 Kings 5:27) “Naaman’s leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever.” Then Gehazi went from Elisha’s presence and his skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow.
Dear church family, James 1 contains a terrifying verse:
(James 1:14-16) But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.
Why do we face trials? Because we are dragged away by our own desires. These desires conceive sin, and sin, when fully grown, gives birth to death. Greed gives birth to death!
3.Clue/ How can we be free from greed that leads to death?
I meditate on the Word daily through neighborhood semejeul (daily scripture reading), and this is why. Let’s find a solution to the problem by following the order of the Word meditation.
Emptiness/ Be (content) in any circumstance.
Last week, during the Sunday sermon, we meditated on Philippians. To be content means to control desires for oneself and, rather, to simplify life by reducing excessive possessions.
How do we gain the strength to be content? We must learn it, both intellectually and physically, and acquire the ability to be content in any circumstance.
(Philippians 4:11) "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."
(Philippians 4:12) "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."
John the Baptist, living in the wilderness on locusts and wild honey, confessed his relationship with Jesus as one of contentment. "He must become greater; I must become less."
(John 3:30) "He must become greater; I must become less."
John lived his life acknowledging that he was not the main character in his life story, but Jesus was. This is why John could write a perfect story of God.
Example: Pastor Jun Eun-Ju's testament to two pastors:
-> "Let’s live on the stipend received from the church. Do not accept speaking fees from external churches, including for revival meetings!"
Question: How does a pastor learn to be content?
-> The strength to be content grows every time you return external stipends.
Example: All the stipends received in Texas were given as mission offerings.
Example: Returned the honorarium from Pastor SHAWN for the heaven farewell service.
Pastor SHAWN's last words still echo in my ears, "Pastor, I will find a way to give this stipend back to you!"
Fulfillment/ Fill your heart with (Jesus).
Just emptying your heart of greed doesn't mean the greed disappears. After emptying, it must be filled. When we fill our hearts with Jesus, we can overcome the temptation of greed.
We need to fulfill not only material needs but also 'inner emptiness.' When our inner self is empty, we become sensitive to (numbers). When filled with Jesus, we can overcome greed. Jesus is the source that fills us.
Thus, Paul confesses,
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
(Philippians 4:13) "I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
Elisha introduced two miracles like this:
A. There was death in the pot due to wild gourds. But when flour was thrown in, the death disappeared.
(2 Kings 4:41) Elisha said, "Get some flour." He put it into the pot and said, "Serve it to the people to eat." And there was nothing harmful in the pot.
When the bread of life, Jesus, is thrown in, life is obtained.
B. When there was a problem with the water source, salt was thrown in, and it produced again.
(2 Kings 2:21) "Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, 'This is what the Lord says: I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.'"
When Jesus, like salt, is thrown in, life is obtained.
Example: Pastor Hong Min-Gi’s sermon -> "Think of the SKY (heaven)."
STOP earthly thoughts. KEEP the grace and word received. YIELD, surrender.
Example: In the final exam of the first session of the Bible reading group, a member answered like this:
(Question #19) Summarize the Gospel of Matthew and write about what you learned.
-> "Learning about the background of the Gospel of Matthew helped me understand it better, and meditating deeply on the parables of the kingdom was particularly meaningful."
Sharing/ Share the (grace) you have received.
Elisha is a model, a shadow, of Jesus.
One day, Elisha received twenty loaves of barley bread and some fresh grain. He shared it with the people and prayed, and the twenty loaves of bread and fresh grain fed a hundred people and their families.
(2 Kings 4:42) "A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. 'Give it to the people to eat,' Elisha said."
(2 Kings 4:43) "'How can I set this before a hundred men?' his servant asked. But Elisha answered, 'Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says: They will eat and have some left over.'"
Emptying our hearts of greed is good, and filling them with Jesus is good, but we must not stop there. The next step is to let it flow.
What is the characteristic of greed? It is not only our own hunger but also (indifference) to neighbors!!!
Example: The answer sheet of a Bible reading group member -> "What grace did you receive after reading the Bible? Before the study, I was filled with complaints about why God allows the unfairness and injustice in the world. But after studying, I changed. I decided to leave those parts to God and work to correct the unfairness and injustice I see, to love, protect, and care for the hungry and oppressed people."
Among the fruits of the Spirit, goodness means proactive good deeds more than just charity.
Example: A donation of $20 by a black person on Kensington Street.
4. Presenting the Gospel/ Who is Jesus?
He did not consider equality with (God) something to be used to his own advantage.
He emptied himself, taking the form of a (servant) and being made in human likeness.
He humbled himself and became (obedient) to death, even death on a cross.
(Philippians 2:5-8) "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!"
5. Conclusion/ We are citizens of heaven. Let’s not covet earthly things but share them!
Dear family in Christ, the Bible is not about human stories but God's story.
Do not just go home with the story of Elisha healing Naaman.
Let’s write God's story.
To do so, we must be free from the greed that leads us to write human stories like Gehazi.
Therefore, let us be content by emptying our desires. Let us fill our inner self with Jesus. And let us not just keep the grace we receive but let it flow.
We are citizens of heaven, not of this earth.

(Philippians 3:20) "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ."
We live on this earth not to write our stories but to write God's story here.
Why were we created?

For the people of this earth.
To lead those filled with greed like Gehazi to Jesus, so they can be saved, gain eternal life, and live as citizens of heaven.
When you worship today and go out into the world, remember two things!
I am a citizen of heaven!

Let us become endlessly wise in the Word to better understand God's thoughts.
Let us become endlessly ignorant in greed to fulfill God's will!
